[Practical Application Review – Week 26]

Greetings,

We continue our journey of exploring all 260 chapters of the New Testament, five (5) chapters each week.  Let us continue in the book of Romans.

Schedule – Week 26:

Please read and/or listen to Romans 9, 10, 11, 12, 13

Even though reading and listening to the Bible being read is valuable, our primary goal is learning to live the Bible (to the best of our ability).

Consider our Practical Application Review process…

For “every” chapter:

Step 1: Select a passage of interest

Step 2: Identify area of teaching

Step 3: Consider a practical application

Now let us explore an example (of our three-step process) for each of these five chapters…

Text #1: Romans 9

   Passage: (vv. 14-18)

Teaching: There is no injustice with God.  Certain people will obtain mercy and compassion from Him.  God is One of love and shows it to those whom He favors.

Application: I want my Creator’s very best for me, and I willingly choose His will and plan for my life.  May our Gracious and Merciful God always be active within me.

Text #2: Romans 10

   Passage: (vv. 9-13)

Teaching: It is critical to confess with the mouth our Lord Jesus and to believe in our heart that God raised Him from the dead.  This is the only true path to salvation and forgiveness of sin.

Application: Periodically, I must check to make certain that my heart and mouth are still actively confessing my Lord Jesus.  I continue to acknowledge my sincere love and appreciation for Him.

Text #3: Romans 11

   Passage: (vv. 1-6)

Teaching: God has not rejected His people.  Even when Elijah thought himself to be the last follower alive, God assured him there were several others.  A remnant is preserved even at the present time.

Application: As one who desires to genuinely be connected, I focus on my unique place within the body of Christ.  I welcome others to also enjoy being a part of the family of God.

Text #4: Romans 12

   Passage: (vv. 4-10)

Teaching: The body of Christ consists of many members.  Each of us has a specific function, differing from that of others.  May we be loving at all times and do good, preferring one another.

Application: I am so grateful to have a place within the Global Church.  My focus and priorities may sometimes be a little different from others.  Overall, every one of us should live passionate for Jesus.

Text #5: Romans 13

   Passage: (vv. 1-7)

Teaching: God has established the civil authority.  Be careful to always do good and not evil.  Very important to be obedient to laws and not commit any crime.  Even paying taxes is expected of us.

Application: Fortunately, the laws where I live at this time do not seem to conflict with the established laws of God.  Being civil and contributing to society are definitely important to me.
