[Practical Application Review – Week 5]

Greetings,

How are you doing with this program?  Does five (5) chapters each week seem like too much, too little, or just right?

The official schedule recommends one chapter every Monday thru Friday, but feel free to adjust as needed.  Weekends are also great times to get into God’s Word.

Schedule – Week 5:

Please read Matthew 21, 22, 23, 24, 25

Our goal is not just reading or listening to the Bible being read. We should also desire living the Bible (to the best of our ability).

For “every” chapter:

Step 1: Select a passage of interest

Step 2: Identify area of teaching

Step 3: Consider a practical application

Now let us take a look at an example for each of these five chapters…

Text #1: Matthew 21

   Passage: (vv. 12-14)

Teaching: Jesus chased some people out of the temple who were money changers and merchants.  Jesus pointed out that God’s house was designed for prayer.  Then Jesus healed the blind and lame.

Application: I choose to follow God’s plan for his house of prayer.  Honestly, we should really connect with Father God and do what pleases Him.  Prayer is the key to making that connection.

Text #2: Matthew 22

   Passage: (vv. 34-40)

Teaching: When Jesus asked which is the greatest commandment in the law, he said to love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, might and mind.  And the second is to love your neighbor as yourself.

Application: I am so happy that Jesus simplified the law of God into two areas.  Our love toward God and our love toward people.  Truthfully, this is my life mission and I trust others will join me.

Text #3: Matthew 23

   Passage: (vv. 1-7)

Teaching: Jesus instructed all to do whatever they learn from the Holy Scriptures.  However, do not follow the example of teachers who are not personally living what they are teaching.

Application: I enjoy learning more of the wisdom of God, even from other instructors.  As Jesus pointed out, my goal is to live obediently to God (whether others do so or not).

Text #4: Matthew 24

   Passage: (vv. 3-14)

Teaching: The disciples asked Jesus about His return and the end of the world.  One component that we can assist with is preaching the gospel among all nations.

Application: I have decided to embrace the love of God and forgiveness of my sin.  Also, my desire is to share this gift with other people (connected to me now and in the future).

Text #5: Matthew 25

   Passage: (vv. 31-46)

Teaching: King Jesus will judge all of us from the view of loving and serving other people (believers).  Even those considered to be among the least of His own.

Application: I must be certain to always be investing into the lives of other humans.  Especially adults and children who place their faith in Jesus.

In closing, I want to encourage you that each application presented is only a recommendation. Please feel free to adjust to your own interest, however you decide to live the wisdom of God’s Word.
