[Practical Application Review – Week 16]
Greetings,
We continue our journey of exploring all 260 chapters of the New Testament, five (5) chapters each week. Let us continue in the book of John.
Schedule – Week 16:
Please read and/or listen to John 8, 9, 10, 11, 12
Even though reading and listening to the Bible being read is valuable, our primary goal is learning to live the Bible (to the best of our ability).
Consider our Practical Application Review process…
For “every” chapter:
Step 1: Select a passage of interest
Step 2: Identify area of teaching
Step 3: Consider a practical application
Now let us explore an example (of our three-step process) for each of these five chapters…
Text #1: John 8
Passage: (vv. 30-36)
Teaching: Jesus said they would know the truth and be made free. When questioned about freedom, Jesus identified sin as a source of enslavement. Jesus came to free us from sin and death.
Application: Every day is a new opportunity. Either continue living within the stronghold of sin, or be freed from its grip (in Jesus’ name).
Text #2: John 9
Passage: (vv. 1-12)
Teaching: Jesus healed a man who was born blind. Just beforehand, the disciples asked Jesus if any sin of his own or his parents caused his blindness. No, this is so the works of God might be seen in him.
Application: I pray that my Loving God will be glorified in all of my weaknesses. May His Spirit bring about even greater testimonies in the days ahead.
Text #3: John 10
Passage: (vv. 1-16)
Teaching: Jesus is the Good Shepherd. Each of us may become one of His sheep. He is willing to give His life for the sake of His own followers.
Application: I am so excited that Jesus has invited me into His flock. Following my Lord anywhere He decides is such an honor. Plus, I enjoy sharing His invitation with others.
Text #4: John 11
Passage: (vv. 17-44)
Teaching: Jesus travels to Bethany since Lazar has recently died. Martha and Mary both speak with Jesus, having great faith in God. Jesus prays and commands Lazar to come forth from the grave. And so, he did.
Application: Deep down inside, I believe the Creator of everything and Giver of life can do things which people may think is impossible. May those who die before their appointed time return to finish the work (in Jesus’ name).
Text #5: John 12
Passage: (vv. 1-11)
Teaching: Jesus and Lazar are guests at a banquet where both are being celebrated. Mary anointed the feet of Jesus with pure and expensive nard. Judah Iscariot was very displeased and spoke against it. Because of Lazar’s testimony, many followed Jesus.
Application: Celebrating our Lord Jesus can be so rewarding. So is sharing our own personal testimonies of what our Lord Jesus has done in our unique lives. Anything you would like to share?
