[Practical Application Review – Week 15]

Greetings,

We continue our journey of exploring all 260 chapters of the New Testament, five (5) chapters each week.  Let us continue in the book of John.

Schedule – Week 15:

Please read and/or listen to John 3, 4, 5, 6, 7

Even though reading and listening to the Bible being read is valuable, our primary goal is learning to live the Bible (to the best of our ability).

Consider our Practical Application Review process…

For “every” chapter:

Step 1: Select a passage of interest

Step 2: Identify area of teaching

Step 3: Consider a practical application

Now let us explore an example (of our three-step process) for each of these five chapters…

Text #1: John 3

   Passage: (vv. 14-21)

Teaching: Father God sent Jesus to save all of us (people who believe in Him).  Unfortunately, the unbelievers are destined to be condemned.  Some people are drawn to the light while others are not.

Application: I have already accepted Jesus as Lord and Savior of my own life.  Now, I focus on sharing that light with others (guiding them to prayerfully accept Jesus and His salvation).

Text #2: John 4

   Passage: (vv. 6-15)

Teaching: A Samaritan woman came to Jacob’s well to draw water.  Jesus taught her about the “living water” that will spring up inside to life everlasting.  Desiring not to ever get thirsty again, the woman requested to be able to partake.

Application: Certain things we encounter are physical while others are spiritual.  One temporary and the other eternal.  I feel a certain level of need for both, but essentially require my thirst to be quenched by my Loving God.

Text #3: John 5

   Passage: (vv. 1-15)

Teaching: Jesus met a man who had been sick for 38 years.  The man could not get into the baptismal pool at the time an angel stirred the water.  Jesus healed him right then and there, and later told the man not to sin again or something worse might happen.

Application: Healing from our Merciful God is so awesome.  So is obedience to His wisdom and guidance.  I desire to break free from everything which may be hurting my health (physically and spiritually).

Text #4: John 6

   Passage: (vv. 30-35)

Teaching: Jesus is the Bread of Life which came down from Heaven.  In Him is our ability to live forever and never hunger or thirst (fully satisfied).

Application: I am eternally grateful to Father God, Lord Jesus and Holy Spirit.  All of my needs are provided from Heaven (now and future).

Text #5: John 7

   Passage: (vv. 37-38)

Teaching: Jesus spoke of those who believe in Him will experience rivers of living water flowing within.  The Holy Spirit destined to come and live within followers of Jesus (once He is glorified).

Application: I am so fortunate to have my Lord Jesus and the Holy Spirit flowing in and through me.  This is something awesome that I desire all to experience … including you my friend.
