[Practical Application Review – Week 40]

Greetings,

We continue our journey of exploring all 260 chapters of the New Testament, five (5) chapters each week.  Let us finish 1 Timothy and start 2 Timothy.

Schedule – Week 40:

Please read and/or listen to 1 Timothy 6 and 2 Timothy 1, 2, 3, 4

Even though reading and listening to the Bible being read is valuable, our primary goal is learning to live the Bible (to the best of our ability).

Consider our Practical Application Review process…

For “every” chapter:

Step 1: Select a passage of interest

Step 2: Identify area of teaching

Step 3: Consider a practical application

Now let us explore an example (of our three-step process) for each of these five chapters…

Text #1: 1 Timothy 6

   Passage: (vv. 6-10)

Teaching: Let us be satisfied with the items of necessity and not luxury.  Those desiring to be rich fall into temptation, snares and lusts.  The love of money is the root of all evil.

Application: From time to time, I may feel the desire to splurge, like Christmas.  Even then, I feel far better when my focus is also on other people.  Always good to give and share.

Text #2: 2 Timothy 1

   Passage: (vv. 4-5)

Teaching: I am anxious to see you and am reminded of your true faith.  First, in your grandmother Lois.  Second, your mother Eunice.  And now in you also.

Application: Thankfully I had relatives connected to the Christian faith.  My grandfather shared from God’s Word when I was still very young.

Text #3: 2 Timothy 2

   Passage: (vv. 20-21)

Teaching: In a great house there are not only vessels of gold and silver, but also of wood and earth.  Some for formal use and others for service.  Let us be ready for the Master’s use.

Application: I am most grateful to be invited by God into a place of service.  My focus must be on purity, worthiness and ready for when the Master asks of me.

Text #4: 2 Timothy 3

   Passage: (vv. 16-17)

Teaching: All scripture written by the inspiration of the Holy Spirit is profitable for doctrine, reproof, correction and instruction.  That God’s people may become complete.

Application: I have immensely enjoyed reading and studying God’s Word since I was a boy.  There is so much wisdom for us today.  May I continually be refined and become my best version yet.

Text #5: 2 Timothy 4

   Passage: (vv. 1-5)

Teaching: Remember, Jesus is the Judge.  Let us remain committed to preaching God’s Word.  A time will come when some will not listen to the truth, but turn to fables.

Application: I prefer to keep a watchful eye for my Lord and Savior.  Also, faithfully reviewing the Holy scriptures is key.  Honestly, I want to always side with the truth, whether popular or not.
