[Practical Application Review – Week 42]
Greetings,
We continue our journey of exploring all 260 chapters of the New Testament, five (5) chapters each week. Let us continue in the book of Hebrews.
Schedule – Week 42:
Please read and/or listen to Hebrews 2, 3, 4, 5, 6
Even though reading and listening to the Bible being read is valuable, our primary goal is learning to live the Bible (to the best of our ability).
Consider our Practical Application Review process…
For “every” chapter:
Step 1: Select a passage of interest
Step 2: Identify area of teaching
Step 3: Consider a practical application
Now let us explore an example (of our three-step process) for each of these five chapters…
Text #1: Hebrews 2
Passage: (vv. 10-18)
Teaching: Jesus provides salvation and sanctification for us. By His death, Jesus destroyed the power of the devil. And since He suffered and was tempted, He can help us.
Application: Thank you, Jesus! You have broken the bondage of sin, death and hell. I will continue to look to Your example, which includes enduring suffering and overcoming temptation.
Text #2: Hebrews 3
Passage: (vv. 12-19)
Teaching: Be cautious of the unbelieving among you. Search your heart daily against deceitfulness of sin. Remain steadfast in the covenant of Christ. Be careful not to displease or provoke God. Always listen to and believe Him.
Application: I must be careful not to invest much time with those who pull God’s people away. Searching my heart and remaining sincere, while always focusing on and living for my Lord Jesus.
Text #3: Hebrews 4
Passage: (vv. 1-11)
Teaching: God is once again inviting people to enter into His rest. As God rested on the seventh day, He invites us to keep the Sabbath. May we learn to cease from our own works.
Application: I believe working should include rest, at certain times. Honestly, I am open to resting from my own selfish ambitions and pursuing greater quality time with Him.
Text #4: Hebrews 5
Passage: (vv. 11-14)
Teaching: By now, you should be teachers because you have been a long time in training. You are still in need of the primary writings, not yet ready for righteousness or discernment.
Application: Over the years and decades, I have enjoyed learning God’s Word. Once applied and lived, I feel confident to share and teach others.
Text #5: Hebrews 6
Passage: (vv. 7-10)
Teaching: The Earth receives rain to produce herbs, which is a blessing from God. Yet, the ground that produces thorns and briers is rejected. God rewards our works and labor of love.
Application: I choose to utilize God’s blessings to me for good and helpful ways for others. My life must continually be cultivated to become my very best for the glory of God.
