[Practical Application Review – Week 41]
Greetings,
We continue our journey of exploring all 260 chapters of the New Testament, five (5) chapters each week. Let us review Titus and Philemon, and start Hebrews.
Schedule – Week 41:
Please read and/or listen to Titus 1, 2, 3 and Philemon and Hebrews 1
Even though reading and listening to the Bible being read is valuable, our primary goal is learning to live the Bible (to the best of our ability).
Consider our Practical Application Review process…
For “every” chapter:
Step 1: Select a passage of interest
Step 2: Identify area of teaching
Step 3: Consider a practical application
Now let us explore an example (of our three-step process) for each of these five chapters…
Text #1: Titus 1
Passage: (vv. 15-16)
Teaching: To the pure, all things are pure. Nothing is pure though to the defiled and faithless. Professing to know God by mouth, but denying Him with their works.
Application: I desire to live a life of purity, as the Holy Spirit guides me. I pray that my words and deeds align and that Father God be glorified.
Text #2: Titus 2
Passage: (vv. 11-14)
Teaching: The grace of God teaches us to renounce ungodliness and worldly lusts. Living soberly, righteously and godly in this world. And looking for Jesus who saves and purifies us as a new people.
Application: God’s grace is greater than any distractions from the enemy. I desire to keep my focus on Jesus and allow righteousness to flow from Him through me.
Text #3: Titus 3
Passage: (vv. 2-5)
Teaching: Be careful not to speak evil against anyone. Nor be quarrelsome, but meek and gentle. Let us also be good and kind. May God’s mercy flow through us.
Application: At times, I may have to bite my tongue. It is never wise to speak hatefully. May my words be loving and comforting. Holy Spirit, please guide my thoughts and words.
Text #4: Philemon
Passage: (vv. 10-19)
Teaching: Paul sent Onesimus back to Philemon. This servant left for a while and was able to assist Paul. Now was his time to return to serve Philemon.
Application: Throughout the years, I have moved around some for various reasons. Employment, business, ministry and so on. Family and friends always seem to reconnect.
Text #5: Hebrews 1
Passage: (vv. 13-14)
Teaching: The angels are ministering spirits who are sent forth in the service for those who shall inherit life everlasting.
Application: I am truly grateful for the work of angels behind the scenes. Honestly, I believe their help has aided me in avoiding disaster and even death.
