[Practical Application Review – Week 39]
Greetings,
We continue our journey of exploring all 260 chapters of the New Testament, five (5) chapters each week. Let us begin the book of 1 Timothy.
Schedule – Week 39:
Please read and/or listen to 1 Timothy 1, 2, 3, 4, 5
Even though reading and listening to the Bible being read is valuable, our primary goal is learning to live the Bible (to the best of our ability).
Consider our Practical Application Review process…
For “every” chapter:
Step 1: Select a passage of interest
Step 2: Identify area of teaching
Step 3: Consider a practical application
Now let us explore an example (of our three-step process) for each of these five chapters…
Text #1: 1 Timothy 1
Passage: (vv. 14-16)
Teaching: The grace of our Lord is abundant within me. So is my faith and love for Jesus Christ. Thankfully Jesus came into the world to save sinners to life everlasting.
Application: Like the Apostle Paul, I am eternally grateful for the sacrificial gift of my Lord and Savior. May my faith and love for Jesus grow and be observed by all others around me.
Text #2: 1 Timothy 2
Passage: (vv. 3-6)
Teaching: God desires every person to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. Remember, Jesus is our mediator who gave Himself as a ransom for all.
Application: By God’s grace, I have accepted Jesus as my Lord and Savior. Thankfully He has provided me with truth through His Word. Now, I focus on guiding others.
Text #3: 1 Timothy 3
Passage: (vv. 8-13)
Teaching: Deacons (servants) were selected from the cream of the crop. Things like purity were essential. Also, leadership had to be proven beforehand, at home with family.
Application: Though I do not serve as a local church deacon, I have been blessed to serve in various roles for different organizations. A heart for God and other people is most important.
Text #4: 1 Timothy 4
Passage: (vv. 4-5)
Teaching: All things created by God are good. Nothing should be rejected. Only sanctify it with the Word of God and prayer. And be thankful.
Application: There are certain things that may be better choices for me than others. Yet I will always be thankful whatever things come. All natural foods should provide some nutrition.
Text #5: 1 Timothy 5
Passage: (vv. 1-2)
Teaching: Treat an elder man as a father and an elder woman as your mother. Treat the younger men and women as brothers and sisters, with all purity.
Application: Within the Christian faith, each person should feel connected to one another as family. I desire to love every single person, with the utmost level of purity.
