[Practical Application Review – Week 14]
Greetings,
What an incredible opportunity we have to celebrate Jesus and His resurrection. I hope you have discovered His love and forgiveness.
This week, we finish the book of Luke and start the book of John. I trust you are enjoying your time reviewing what Jesus said and did.
Schedule – Week 14:
Please read and/or listen to Luke 22, 23, 24 and John 1, 2
Even though reading and listening to the Bible being read is valuable, our primary goal is learning to live the Bible (to the best of our ability).
Consider our Practical Application Review process…
For “every” chapter:
Step 1: Select a passage of interest
Step 2: Identify area of teaching
Step 3: Consider a practical application
Now let us explore an example (of our three-step process) for each of these five chapters…
Text #1: Luke 22
Passage: (vv. 47-53)
Teaching: Judah Iscariot, who betrayed Jesus, brought others to arrest Jesus in the garden. One of the disciples struck the servant of the high priest and cut off his right ear. Jesus stopped the fight and healed the man’s ear.
Application: At times, I must be reminded not to forcibly resist God’s will and plan throughout my life. May I remain lovingly toward the enemies of Jesus and assist with their basic needs (including medical).
Text #2: Luke 23
Passage: (vv. 39-43)
Teaching: One malefactor being crucified with Jesus blasphemed against Him, but the other one called Jesus Lord and asked to be remembered when Jesus comes in His Kingdom.
Application: Though others push Jesus away, I openly choose Him as Lord of my life. Honestly, I hope to help many others see God’s love through Jesus living within me.
Text #3: Luke 24
Passage: (vv. 36-49)
Teaching: After Jesus rose from the dead, He visited several disciples. He spoke about prophecy being fulfilled through Him. Repentance and forgiveness of sins in His name to be preached among all nations, starting from Jerusalem.
Application: Jesus has come to live in and through me as well. I look to Him for my forgiveness of sins. Plus, I desire to always be a vessel to share this good news among others (near and far).
Text #4: John 1
Passage: (vv. 35-51)
Teaching: John the Baptist pointed his disciples to Jesus. They in turn invited others to join with them. Andrew, Simon Peter, Philip and Nathanael connected with Jesus (and better with one another).
Application: The Christian faith continues to grow globally because of personal connections. May we never forget to share our Lord Jesus and invite others to Him.
Text #5: John 2
Passage: (vv. 13-22)
Teaching: When Jesus was purging the temple, He was asked about a sign. Jesus told them to tear down this temple and in three days He will raise it up. The people misunderstood thinking about the building. Jesus spoke of His physical body.
Application: Some people will misunderstand God. I want to spend more time getting to know my Lord Jesus and better understand Him.
